The Bayco retractable reel is the best I have found. It is very smooth and durable.
After reading reviews and being interested in the extra 10 feet of cord, I opted for this 50' model. After several years, my Northern 40 foot, 12 gauge, reel failed. I wanted a better quality product, but there seems to be a large gap between the inexpensive and very pricey reels, with nothing in the middle. Initial impressions: (1) the cord cover is much softer than the Northern reel and I won't expect it to hold up well on my exposed aggregate concrete; (2) the take-up device works ok, but seems to be rather crude and noisy - acceptable if it continues to function properly. So far, it does take up the cord with less hassle than the Northern model.
I needed the full 50' so I purchased this product last winter. Bayco's website offers no clues, and now I see Amazon does not indicate it has any warranty either. I got the blades straightened but when I tried to do the ground prong it broke off. With a little care it does actually wind up the whole 50 feet. Bayco double boxed the product for shipment to Amazon, and Amazon shipped it in yet another box, none of which were damaged, so I suspect some little Chinaman stepped on the plug long before it got initially boxed and left the homeland. We'll see what it does this winter in my unheated pole barn. Just got around to installing it now. Well, it didn't work out of the box because all the prongs on the ciruit breaker/plug (a neat idea) were bent over.
Why only 3 stars. Well the product comes with installation directions but nothing about how long it is supposed to work or a parts list. So into town for a new plug for the already short cord. But I'd buy the product again.
I bought this product for my homeowner's garage/shop.Electrical components great.But. If if you're buying this extension cord for it's ability to rewind (I thought that was the purpose of a retractable reel cord)-It just don't get it done. Period.
A week after I purchased this reel, the spring loaded mechanism broke, and the cord would no longer retract. Being handy, I was able to take apart the mechanism, get a stronger spring and fix the reel. It works great now, but I would not expect a "Professional" series cord reel to break so relatively easily in my home garage. I would definitely not recommend this to a friend.
